Campsite Rules

Useful information to keep Four Oaks Camping running smoothly

“Best be quiet and reckoned a fool,

Than talk too loud and make it true.”

Anon, Norfolk
Just to state the obvious: common sense and consideration for others is expected at all times.

“..I am a solo bike packer, and a grumpy old fart too. But even I left with a smile and looking forward to returning..”

What do we mean by ‘zero-waste’?

Let’s be fair – Zero Waste (where lifestyles and practices emulate sustainable natural cycles) is an ideal; a direction in which we aim. It is not an end point that’s easily achieved. Four Oaks Camping encourages a zero-waste philosophy. This means we aspire to create a recreational environment that provides an opportunity for visitors to consider the impact of human activities. Experiencing a few nights away camping is already a simple and nature-engaging activity, and offers the perfect context to consider further how we operate in our modern home environments.

We would like to think that visiting our campsite can be an educational experience, if you wish, but it is not our intention to preach or to push our ideals on anyone. At its heart, Four Oaks Camping, West Norfolk is just a place to simplify, unwind and explore.

As a zero-waste campsite we encourage visitors to consider what they bring in order to ensure that no waste is left behind. In practice, we accept that it’s difficult to eliminate the possibility of any waste. We won’t chase you off site waving the bag of rubbish you left behind! Of course, we provide a recycling and refuse station, and request all recyclables to be separated accordingly.

As part of our own steps towards the Zero Waste ideal:

Modern and comfortable composting toilet systems have been installed, through which human waste can be processed naturally

Electricity is generated using solar technology and stored in batteries to run water pumps and lighting, and to provide a charging station for all to use

Water is heated through a solar heating array, and delivered for use in a way that minimises unnecessary consumption*

Eco-friendly, bio-degradable detergents are available

Food waste is collected and composted on site

Fire wood is sustainably and locally sourced
